Great leaders know that the people in the organization must trust them before they will follow them. They work hard at building a high level of trust, and becoming a leader people know they can rely upon. Great leaders never intentionally harm a person on their team. They keep their promises and become allies with the other people in their organization, going to bat for them when they need it.
Never Intentionally Harm Others
HGreat leaders know that the fastest way to destroy the trust in a relationship is to intentionally harm someone within the organization. They don’t play one person against another. They don’t intentionally embarrass other people. And they work hard at communicating with people to avoid any unintentional events that might harm another person.
Keep Promises
Great leaders keep their promises. I have a favorite phrase that says, “Make only commitments you can keep, and keep the commitments you make.” Live by that rule, and you’ll be successful not only as a leader, but also in all the important relationships in your life.
Partner With People
Great leaders partner with their people. In their rulebook, there are no BIG “I’s” or little “you’s.” They believe every person in the organization plays a vital role in the organization’s success, and they treat each person with respect. TD Industries is an organization based out of Dallas, Texas that calls all of its employees “Partners.” And, while the employees are technically partners through a stock plan, it goes way beyond that. The entire company culture supports that philosophy because each person truly feels they are partners in the growth and success of the organization.
